Even though I usually only write about baseball, the past week's events are too staggering not to write about.
A 46 year old man named George Floyd was killed by a police officer pinning his neck to the ground by the officer's knee. The video is graphic, horrifying, and unless you really want to know what happened, I recommend that you don't watch it.
The other thing was, the police officer was white. Floyd was black.
This event, along with the Ahmaud Arbery killing, shows me that racism and segregation are still alive today. Colin Kapernick kneeled during the national anthem, and this is why.
Is it really that bad of a crime for the color of a person's skin to be black? Is it that bad? Is being a black man or woman a crime in America?
Why are innocent lives being taken? Why, when Floyd repeatedly said that he couldn't breathe, did the police officer push harder? Is it protocol for only black men to be killed while pleading for help?
This should not happen. I do NOT want to live in a world where the color of a person's skin matters to the point of death.
Take a moment to think. Is this the world that you want to live in? Where our country's police just kill based on the color of a person's skin?
This needs to stop. Although I don't agree with burning down the Minneapolis police building, I do think that something needs to be done.
Please. Stop killing innocent people. Please.
