Top 10 Worst Players in 2019 (Pitching Edition)

10. Dylan Covey

Another White Sox player at number 10 (Daniel Palka in the hitters edition) shows a trend. In only 18 appearances, Covey won 1 and lost 8 with a staggering 7.98 ERA. To add on, he had a FIP of 6.06 and a WHIP of 1.756. Hopefully he improves for 2020.

9. Adam Conley

In 60 games, Adam Conley went 2-11 with a 6.53 ERA. Conley got a ton of appearances on a struggling Marlins team. The good news was that he had a 5.19 FIP, so he looks to improve for 2020.

8. Dan Straily

Straily was so bad in 2019 that he retired after the end of the season. He went 2-4 last year with a 9.82 ERA and a shocking 2 WHIP. He hurt his team so badly in his 14 appearances, that he just decided to call it quits.

7. Dereck Rodriguez

In 99 IP, Rodriguez managed to go 6-11 with a 5.64 ERA and a 5.69 FIP. His FIP suggests that he will remain the same for 2020, but who knows. He was a rookie, even if an unreliable one at that.

6. Jorge Lopez

In 2019, Lopez, who plays for the Royals, went 4-9 with a 6.53 ERA. He had a FIP of 5.55 and a WHIP of 1.472. He also let up an absurd 2 HR/9 and he hit 10 batters in 123 IP. Lopez's stats make you wonder why he reached the MLB in the first place.

5. Trevor Hildenberger

Hildenberger only pitched in 16.1 innings, but it was enough to dub him 5th worst pitcher in the MLB. He went 2-2 with a 10.47 ERA, but a 4.81 FIP shows that he got extremely unlucky. He also had an absurd 2.265 WHIP.

4. Wade Davis

Wade Davis is one of the most inconsistent players in the league, but it had never gotten as bad as it did in 2019. In 50 games, Davis had 15 saves while blowing 3. But it was his 8.65 ERA that shocks me the most. A 5.56 FIP shows that he got more than a bit unlucky, so expect him to rebound for 2020.

Before we get into the top 3, here are some honorable mentions.

(Dis)Honorable Mentions: Trevor Rosenthal, Jose Suarez, Jesse Biddle, Ty Blach, Ryan Carpenter, Derek Holland

3. David Hernandez

In 2019, Hernandez, one of the best relievers in the game in 2018, had an 8.02 ERA in 42.2 innings with a 2-5 record. His FIP shows that he was one of the most unlucky pitchers in the game last year, as he had a 4.34 FIP. Expect him to rebound next year.

2. Corbin Burnes

In 2018, Burnes was one of the hottest rookies in the league. With a 7-0 record and a 2.61 ERA, expectations were high for 2019. And boy oh boy did he do horribly. He had an 8.82 ERA in 49 innings. He was so bad that he was sent down to AAA, where in 8 games, he had an 8.46 ERA. Even his FIP agrees with his horrible 2019.

1. Edwin Jackson

In 18 games, Jackson earned the honor of the worst pitcher in the MLB. He managed to go 3-10 with a 9.58 ERA, and a -2.4 WAR. He was the worst player in baseball in terms of WAR. He should just retire after his 2019 season.
